Our one-day or half-day intensives are suitable for all—whether you’re a seasoned studio potter, or an absolute beginner—each session is designed to teach you a set of fundamental skills for a production technique. We offer a selection of workshops over the warmer months of the year and are available for private group workshops.
Bookings must be made two weeks before the listed workshop date to secure your place.
Workshops
Slip-casting fundamentals + introduction to mould-making
Sat, 21 Feb
10am-4:30pm
Sat, 28 Mar
10am-4:30pm
Discover the process of slipcasting, and give the process a go by making a hexagonal pot using our modular system of plaster moulds. You'll walk away with a hexagonal pot made to your chosen design, glazed and fired by your tutor, then delivered to your address. At the workshop, you'll learn the basics of how slipcasting and mould-making works.
In this extended workshop, you will also try your hand at a range of basic, but critical techniques used in mould-making: mixing and pouring plaster, building a mould-former, working with soft-soap for plaster surfaces, and release techniques for various materials. This is a skills-focused section of workshop, you will be making moulds in groups using patterns and masters prepared by the host. Unfortunately, these won't be able to be taken home with you. If you have projects or objects you would like to make moulds of, you're encouraged to bring these along to discuss how you could approach your project.
The day is split into two sessions:
10:00AM - 1:30PM, then 2:30PM - 4:30PM
Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.
If you have very sensitive skin, please bring gloves for the plaster-mixing exercise (dishwashing gloves work well).
Masks will be available - but feel free to bring your own if you would prefer.
There are minimum numbers for workshops to run, so if your chosen day isn't quite full enough, I'll get in touch to suggest a new date. This workshop requires a minimum of 5 participants, but can host up to 6.
